Working from his home in Otisfield, Vaill offers personalized service and the expertise needed for business owners to make sense of their finances.

“We are like a ‘business doctor.’ We clean up client's books either manual or a Quickbooks, then usually we take over the accounting up to income tax filings, done by their CPA,” Vaill said. “We usually take over the accounting after the clean-up. Also, we have a consulting niche advising clients regarding their profitability performance and offering solutions to improve profitability. I have 18 years of banking experience as an executive for large commercial banks. Therefore, we also render assistance in helping a business obtain business loans.”

Clients range from businesses in Cumberland County to Oxford, Androscoggin, and Kennebec counties and because its services are individually tailored to a client’s needs, many businesses feel that hiring Maine Management & Business Services is like adding a Chief Financial Officer at a reasonable cost.

They are now ready for the CPA and now they have a greater understanding and knowledge about how their business is performing. It was a first for them after two years.”

According to Vaill, many business owners are so busy running the day-to-day operations of the company that their financial picture becomes overlooked, jeopardizing their success.

“The most challenging aspect of my work is always the clean-up of a client’s books,” he said. “Usually there’s a mess and some business owners have no clue as to the profit or costs associated with their business. We help them with that. We provide clarity and in some ways it’s like hiring a good business consultant and a reasonable CFO financial doctor.”

When he first moved to Maine in 2000, Vaill served as a General Manager for two retailers and then was CFO of a very large year-round resort. He has spent more than 43 years in business safeguarding company books.

“The misconception that some people may have about Maine Management & Business Services is that they think that I’m a run of the mill accounting service,” he said. “I do not do CPA work; what I promise to give my clients is a clean set of books.”

Prior to law school, from 2014 to 2016, Hannah was a family law paralegal for a busy litigation firm in Phoenix, Arizona focusing on high-asset divorce, custody, spousal support, grandparents' rights, and adoption. She also served as a case manager for the Androscoggin County Family Treatment Drug Court in Lewiston from 2012 to 2014 where she worked closely with Judge John B. Beliveau, treatment providers, DHHS, and parents' attorneys to assist in achieving a positive outcome for parents struggling with substance abuse disorders.

Following graduation from ASU Law, St. Pierre passed the bar in Nevada and practiced in worker's compensation, family law, and probate administration in Carson City, Nevada. Located at 15 Main St. in Gray, the mission of Home Academy is to provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that goes beyond traditional methods. Home Academy’s founders are two sisters, Crystal and Liz, of school-aged children who are frustrated by the limitations of the public school system and seek an educational approach catered to the unique needs of their family.

“We believe in cultivating critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity and the overall growth of each child,” the sisters said. “At Home Academy, we strive to foster a love for education, empowering students to become lifelong learners and future leaders. We are starting this together. We are both entrepreneurs and have experience with business startups. We both have a huge desire to do something better for our children.”

They said they were inspired to create Home Academy after they witnessed how their children were not receiving the individualized attention that they required in a system overly focused on standards and test scores. After exploring various alternative schools and private schools in Maine without finding the right fit, Crystal and Liz felt compelled to create their own educational haven where their children and others could flourish.

Driven by their vision, the sisters embarked on the journey of establishing the Home Academy homeschooling program with a goal of creating a safe and nurturing space where children could feel safe, valued, and free to be themselves. They envisioned an environment that allowed kids to explore their passions, learn in areas that interested them, spend less time on technology, and embrace the wonders of the outdoors.

We want our students to feel like they are coming home. They feel safe, appreciated, and have a love for education.”

Mindfulness and positive self-talk are integral parts of the Home Academy philosophy which aims to equip students with tools for emotional well-being and resilience, enabling them to navigate challenges and cultivate a healthy mindset.

“We are excited to incorporate the Big Life Journal into our program,” the sisters said. “The Big Life Journal helps children develop strong Social-Emotional Learning and growth mindset skills through inspiring stories, colorful illustrations, and engaging guided activities.”

As a non-profit school, the emphasis will be small class sizes, individualized learning, and an entrepreneurship program for students.

“We will prioritize giving children the freedom to explore their interests and passions,” the sisters said. “Our curriculum allows for flexibility, enabling students to delve into subjects that inspire them and pursue their unique talents. This freedom nurtures a genuine love for learning, as students actively engage in their education and take ownership of their academic journey.”

“The majority of our learning will take place outdoors, embracing the wonders of nature as an extension of our classroom,” the sisters said. “Outdoor education not only promotes physical activity and a connection to the environment, but also enhances creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.”
