A unique shopping experience awaits those seeking elegance and sophistication in luxury designer handbags and accessories locally.
“I provide a unique boutique shopping experience and access to luxury designer handbags and accessories, historically not available to purchase in person in Maine,” Keenan said. “I also provide restoration services, including cleaning, touch ups, alterations, and small fixes for handbags and accessories. I specialize in ‘vintage’ luxury goods from the early 2000s, all the way back to the early 1980s. I have a unique knowledge of the style, design, history and manufacturing dates of each of the individual items, and the fashion houses that designed them. Customers also have the option to consign their own designer items and can request that I find specific items that they are looking for.”
Vine Vintage is the only store of its kind in the area and since its launch a year ago, it has developed a loyal and devoted following.
“There are other resale companies that categorize themselves as ‘thrift stores,’ while I categorize my store as a “resale boutique,” Keenan said. “Aside from the uniqueness of my store, what sets me apart the most is my pricing. While most pre-loved luxury handbags cost on average $1,500, my average sale is under $500. I’m able to provide affordable pricing by sourcing my inventory from close contacts that I have made in the industry over the years, as well as focusing on vintage pieces that need restoration services. Customers can feel confident that they are buying 100 percent authentic items, because I use a third-party company called Authentic Detective for each item. A certificate of authenticity is provided with each sale.”
Because of Keenan’s expertise and emphasis on providing exceptional customer service, pricing at Vine Vintage is among the lowest you can find locally and online for pre-loved designer handbags and accessories. She only sells genuine designer bags, and each one has been carefully chosen for the store in gently used vintage condition.
“Our bags are affordable in comparison to what is available new,” Keenan said. “People who never thought they could afford it find that luxury handbags and accessories can be affordable, contrary to what they may believe.”
With its convenient location in Windham, Vine Vintage offers customers many opportunities to view inventory not only in person, but also online and through social media.
“Because I have a website and online presence, I ship inventory all over the world,” Keenan said. “All items are available for in-store pickup or shipping.”
Vine Vintage Luxury Resale Boutique is a culmination of Keenan's love of vintage pieces, background in art, and previous business experience.
Reviews posted online about Vine Vintage are simply outstanding.
“Officially addicted. Prices and quality are unmatched. Nothing like a finding that vintage bag you’ve been searching for – coupled with a super sweetheart business owner! Very communicative and quick and I am a repeat offender for life!” Emily Cooke
“Recently purchased a beautiful Burberry Boston bag in basically brand-new condition from Vine Vintage. Jasmine was kind enough to give me ideas and different options to customize the bag to my needs. The shipping was super quick and came packaged beautifully. The bag in person is even more perfect and a piece that I hope to pass down to my daughter one day. Thank you again!” Jessica Campbell
“I recently purchased not one, not two, but three bags from Vine Vintage. I came to look at the stunning Gucci Diana tote and left with a YSL clutch converted to a crossbody and a Gucci shoulder tote. I cannot recommend Jasmine enough! I will absolutely be purchasing more bags from her in the future. It was such a great experience overall, and I truly can’t believe how gorgeous all 3 of my bags are. I am now the proud owner of some stunning vintage goods that I can’t wait to show off. 10/10 seller, product, experience, communication, and pricing!” Erin Leigh

Nonprofit Spotlight: Age Friendly Windham
Windham is making significant strides in ensuring residents of all ages and abilities can thrive. The town’s Age-Friendly Windham (AFW) initiative, which began as a grassroots effort among community volunteers and town staff, has evolved into a fully established program dedicated to expanding services, fostering partnerships, and advocating for infrastructure improvements that enhance residents’ quality of life.
Following severe storms in December 2023 and April 2024, Windham officials recognized the urgent need to improve emergency preparedness, particularly for older adults vulnerable to prolonged power outages. Through its participation in the Community Connections (CC) project, AFW has taken proactive steps to address these concerns.
Led by Age-Friendly Coordinator and Community Connector Erica Bell-Watkins, the initiative has successfully brought together key town departments—including Police, Fire, and Communications—to develop a more age-friendly and resource-conscious emergency response plan.
As part of this effort, AFW conducted a comprehensive emergency preparedness survey in late 2024, receiving over 150 responses from community members. The findings are shaping new strategies, including the distribution of 100 emergency preparedness “Go-Bags” this spring. These bags will contain essential items such as battery-operated radios with flashlights and chargers, blankets, batteries, first aid kits, water purification tablets, hand sanitizer, and secure document bags. Additionally, AFW has created an Emergency Preparedness Guide to help residents respond confidently in crisis situations.

Expanding Services and Strengthening Partnerships
Beyond emergency preparedness, Windham has leveraged the CC project to expand key community services, including:
● Increased Transportation Access: In 2024, Windham’s transportation service provided over 200 rides to 60 clients for medical appointments and social activities. AFW is now working to double ridership and ensure more residents can access reliable transportation.
● Bridging the Digital Divide: In partnership with the Windham Public Library and the National Digital Equity Center, AFW launched Techno Wednesdays, a series of digital literacy workshops covering cyber fraud prevention, telehealth navigation, email basics, and device assistance.
● Community Meals and Educational Programs: The Nourish Your Body and Mind series offers opportunities for residents to gather, learn, and connect. Past sessions have covered topics such as housing solutions, winter preparedness, and local resources, with support from organizations like the Southern Maine Agency on Aging, AARP, and Maine Housing.
Boosting Community Awareness and Future Growth
One of the biggest successes of the CC project has been expanding community awareness of AFW’s programs. Bell-Watkins has focused on outreach and collaboration, ensuring that residents are well-informed about available services. “Since launching the Community Connections pilot in September, I’ve been able to dedicate more time to outreach and building partnerships,” said Bell-Watkins. “As a result, more people know about AFW’s programs and resources, and that’s a huge step forward.”
Looking ahead, Windham is committed to securing long-term funding for these critical programs. A key milestone in this effort was Bell-Watkins’ appointment to the Ad Hoc Middle School Repurposing Committee, highlighting the town’s recognition of the importance of age-friendly services. Additionally, the Community Connect pilot will continue to financially support the position in partnership with the town, ensuring that Windham’s efforts to foster a more connected and resilient community will continue well into the future.

Business Spotlight: Maine Tick and Mosquito Control
Insects and other annoying bugs and pests carrying diseases who can ruin both indoor and outdoor activities are ready for another season of invading homes and making our lives miserable. But there is a solution, and Maine Tick and Mosquito Control stands ready to help.
“Our team, local office staff and Maine-licensed pest control technicians take great care in protecting you from the dangers of tick and mosquito bites and the diseases associated with them,” said Don Bishop of Maine Tick and Mosquito Control. “We create protective yard barriers, provide lawn treatments and have extensive tick protection programs for residents of towns and cities of Maine.”
Bishop said that Maine Tick and Mosquito Control incorporates a simple pest management system into every tick treatment, mosquito barrier treatments and rodent control.
“It's a simple 1, 2, 3 method of pest control, IPM, commonly known as the Integrated Pest Management,” he said.
According to Bishop, who has more than 24 years of experience in pest control, those steps include identification, evaluation and treatment.
“To first identify your pest problems is key and our trained technicians will pinpoint the cause of your problems,” he said. “Because no two yards are alike, we will immediately evaluate your surrounding home for potential risk areas and will develop a plan of action to resolve the problems. Then we will treat the areas that need to be treated with a protective barrier treatment, lawn treatments or through bait and tick boxes and tubes.”
All of this results in a Maine home pest protection plan like no other with a 100 percent satisfaction guarantee.
“Our family-owned and operated in Maine pest control business is preferred because of our reliable, professional and friendly staff,” Bishop said. “As well, we maintain ongoing communication with our trusted customers, and we work hard to keep them safe from bites and deadly diseases all year long. Investing in a mosquito control program is more important than ever to protect your family from the dangers these parasites carry. It's well known that there is 88 percent to 93 percent success rate when treating yards and we strive for even better. We've got your backyard covered.”
Maine Tick and Mosquito Control crews are dependable and show up on time when needed.
“We offer dependable, affordable residential pest control services that include tick, mosquito and rodent eradication and control,” Bishop said. “The services we provide can be a one-time service, special event or an on-going treatment plan that works for you and your budget. We also provide commercial plans for pest extermination and work directly with property managers and real estate agents. Group plans are also available.”
He said that all treatment products used by Maine Tick and Mosquito Control are EPA approved, and the company doesn’t use contracts, so customers may cancel at any time.
Company reviews are nothing less than exceptional.
“So happy with Maine Tick and Mosquito, they took care of our issue in a timely manner, Susan was great to work with, very friendly and took good care of us! Couldn’t be more pleased with them, so easy to work with, I will certainly recommend them and call again if I need their services.” Stephanie Quattrucci
"The staff at Maine Tick & Mosquito are wonderful to work with. They are extremely responsive, reliable, and professional. Their treatments eliminated ticks and drastically reduced the mosquito population around my home. It was money well spent. I’ve already signed up for next year!" Candy Ingalls.
“Highly recommend Maine Tick & Mosquito!! We have been a customer of theirs for 2 years now and will continue to use their service. Thanks to them, it is much more enjoyable to entertain around our pool and outdoor area. Plus, their customer service is top notch. Call them, get on their list for next season ... your only regret will be that you didn't do it sooner. A++ company and service.” Tracey Herring

Business Spotlight: Reading Remotely Tutoring Services
By offering flexibility and instruction tailored to each student’s needs, lessons by Reading Remotely Tutoring Services ensure not only that students learn, but also help unlock their future potential. Certified teachers provide individualized lessons for children of all ages, and the remote tutoring lessons enable flexibility during those busy summer months.
“Everything is shared through our screen, and all the student needs is a piece of paper and something with which to write. We offer optional assessment sessions prior to the six weeks of tutoring, or provide the assessments during the first lesson,” said Melissa Gadbois, the owner of Reading Remotely Tutoring Services. “Since lessons are individualized, tutoring sessions may focus on phonics, spelling, fluency, or reading comprehension, depending on the child's specific needs. We also tailor the level of support to what the parents are hoping to achieve through the tutoring lessons. For some, the goal is simply to prevent summer learning loss. For others, we work at filling gaps with their reading and/or spelling skills to help the child get closer to grade level.”
Gadbois is a Literacy Specialist and a Certified Dyslexia Practitioner and has been teaching in Southern Maine for 17 years.
“I started tutoring in the evenings and in the summers in 2016,” she said. “In 2020, I began teaching lessons virtually to my students at school and realized that it was engaging, and I was seeing real progress. I opened it up to tutoring remotely that summer, and there was a lot of interest. As far as I know, I am one of the few educators in the state who holds both Literacy Specialist and Certified Dyslexia Practitioner titles. Because of this, I’m able to use a wide variety of tools and knowledge to help determine comprehensive plans to support our students.”
In 2022, Gadbois added an additional tutor, Jamie Vaillancourt, who graduated from Saint Joseph's College with an elementary education degree and a concentration in special education. She teaches kindergarten during the school year and has additional certification in a phonics curriculum called LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling). Last summer, Gadbois added a third tutor, Sheri Woolverton, a retired K-3 South Portland teacher, to the team to keep up with scheduling demands.
“As a Certified Dyslexia Practitioner, I’m able to directly provide Orton-Gillingham lessons to students, which is a type of tutoring that many families are looking for, especially for children with a diagnosed or perceived learning disability. Although I cannot provide direct tutoring to all the students who sign up for our services, I provide both tutors with materials for initial assessments and help analyze the results and make instructional plans for the summer. Families typically sign up for one or two lessons per week, and we work hard to maximize the lesson time we have with our students. This summer, we will surpass 100 students who have received our tutoring services since my business went remote, including many repeat students and families.”
What sets Reading Remotely Tutoring Services apart is that, in being virtual, they can work with children anywhere there is Wi-Fi.
“Over the past few summers, I've worked with students who live in different states and time zones, and with local students when they are on vacation,” Gadbois said. “Since most lessons are just 30 to 45 minutes, they are easy to fit into your summer schedule, and you don't have to miss out on too much summer fun. We also offer flexibility and have customized schedules to account for availability around summer camp schedules.”
According to Gadbois, some families are wary of trying remote tutoring but quickly realize the quality of instruction is not negatively impacted when it's delivered through the screen.
“In fact, I've noticed that students are typically more engaged during our remote lessons than they are during in-person lessons,” she said. “Lessons are paced in a way that is motivating, and they typically end with a game. Throughout the entire 30 to 45 minutes, students are equally engaged and challenged, so that they can feel confident and capable.”
As a K-2 Literacy Specialist during the school year, Gadbois sees firsthand the impact that summer regression has on students and it’s something that impacts all students, to varying degrees.
“Research has shown that students lose about 20 percent of their reading gains from a school year over the summer, and teachers are needing to spend the first month or two of the new school year helping students catch up to where they were the previous spring,” she said. “Summer tutoring can help in not only preventing this ‘summer slide,’ but also can help improve students' abilities so they start the year stronger than ever. Whether it is increased confidence and engagement in reading, improved phonics and spelling skills, or smoother reading fluency, parents are consistently pleased with the impact of our lessons.”
Gadbois knows what it’s like to want to make the most of Maine summers. Growing up on Sebago Lake in Windham, she has always spent her summers with family and friends at the lake, where her parents still reside. “By providing remote tutoring lessons, I’m able to help families prioritize their child’s learning without needing to sacrifice the summer memories that are equally as important. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help prepare students for the new school year in a way that is as manageable as it is beneficial.”

Nonprofit Spotlight: Gander Brook Christian Camp
Children in Maine are aware that summer never lasts as long as they wish, but there is a way for them to make the most of the season by attending a legendary camp in Raymond where they can experience adventure in a positive, safe, and encouraging setting.
Gander Brook Christian Camp provides kids 8 to 18 with a rustic camping experience whether it’s overnight or during the day where they can make lifelong friendships, strengthen their faith and simply to enjoy what it is like to be a child.
Owned and operated by the Churches of Christ in New England, Gander Brook Christian Camp is located at the corner of Ledge Hill Road and North Raymond Road and sits on 222 acres as well as additional waterfront property on Raymond Pond. Sessions are during the day Monday through Friday or overnight from Saturday to Saturday. Sessions run weekly from the last week of June through the first week of August.
Steve Mezzapelle of Gander Brook Christian Camp first came to the camp at age 8 and attended every year until he was 18 and even returned as a camp counselor for several summers when he was in college. He currently serves on the camp’s Board of Directors.
“It made such a huge impact on my life,” he said. “This is a hidden gem nobody knows about. Gander Brook is the reason why I fell in love with Maine and the reason I wanted to move here. It had that great of a positive impact on my life.”
The camp has been operating in Raymond since 1959 and is guided by a Board of Directors from around New England. It is staffed by two directors, a staff of 16 to 20 camp counselors and an activities director. Volunteers staff the kitchen, the camp canteen and camp laundry, and there are also merit badge instructors, nurses, and Bible instructors. Camp counselors change each year and are recruited from the leading Christian colleges across America. The two camp directors have been with the camp for more than two decades.
The camp is non-denominational, affordable, and open to all children. Overnight campers bunk in cabins with kids their own age for their weeklong stay and their daily schedule includes, meals, Bible classes, earning merit badges such as outdoor cooking, archery, ropes course, tie dyeing, sign language and more plus afternoon sports and swimming/kayaking, cabin challenge games and evening activities such as skit nights, Crazy Olympics, scavenger hunts, nature classes, bonfires, and cookouts. Day campers between the ages of 6 and 13 experience all the daytime activities and receive breakfast and lunch every day.
“We wanted more kids to experience Gander Brook, so we opened it up this year for both day campers and overnight campers,” Mezzapelle said. “Day campers can sign up on a week-by-week basis or for throughout the summer.”
Gander Brook provides campers with a good, healthy, faith-based environment away from the chaotic stresses that can often surround children. No electronic devices are allowed, so it’s a great place for kids to unplug and connect with people and nature and to just have fun. For many campers, lifelong friendships are forged, and those friendships and the people associated with Gander Brook Christian Camp are what make this camp special.
Mezzapelle said that campers find encouragement and an environment which makes everyone feel special and respected like they are family.
The Gander Brook Christian Camp site itself is one of Maine’s historic properties. On the site, the Wilson Hotel and Spring Company, with its centerpiece inn known as “The Wilson” was built in 1890. The Noraco Inn was built on the site in 1929 on the berms seen in the Wilson Hotel pictures, and which still surrounds the lodge today at Gander Brook. When the inn closed around 1950, the property was vacant for nine years. The Churches of Christ in New England saw a need for summer camping and organized a Board of Directors which purchased the 200-acre property in 1959 and has been operating a summer camp program each summer since then.
“This is such a beautiful place, and we want the community to know about it and for young people to experience it for themselves,” Mezzapelle said.
Openings for children are currently available at Gander Book Christian Camp for this summer.

Business Spotlight: O’Shea Builders LLC
The mission of O’Shea Builders remains as basic as it did when the company was founded 20 years ago and that is to foster lasting relationships with clients through transparency, quality craftsmanship, and community focused values.
Warren O’Shea created O’Shea Builders as a residential remodeling-only company, and it offers comprehensive design and whole-house remodeling. The company is known for personalized solutions, integrity, and consumer advocacy.
“Very few companies are remodeling only,” O’Shea said. “I come from the hospitality industry which is built upon customer service, attention to detail, and customer satisfaction. At one time, I was the youngest member of the New England Innkeepers Association. Our most-sought qualities are trust and communication. Almost all our vacation home remodels have owners who are out of state. Keeping them informed and engaged is of the utmost importance.”
With decades of experience in remodeling, O’Shea says the company’s expertise lies in transforming and revitalizing his clients’ living spaces efficiently and effectively, with a primary focus on providing quality kitchen, bathroom, and whole home renovations.
“Over the last 20 years we have developed not only procedures, but systems to ensure unparalleled customer service,” O’Shea said. “We are like a personal chef, and we don't offer a drive-up window service. We strive to make the client feel exclusive. We do not put signs in their yards, we have no truck lettering, and we don't post their project on social media without their expressed permission. I do not want the client to feel that we are using their project as a springboard for prospecting new projects in the neighborhood. Their project is their business, and their privacy is mine. When we perform as designed, the work inquiries will come organically. We have a pre-existing NDA within our company for all O’Shea Builders employees and have performed under NDA's as well.”
Without reservation, O’Shea credits his employees for the company’s longevity and business success.
“O’Shea Builders is nothing without them and they are our biggest fans,” he said. “If you have the good fortune to meet any one of them, they will tell you that they feel valued, supported, engaged, challenged and well-compensated. Our benefits package is as robust as a company four times as large. My goal is to have each and every one of them be so stable and confident in their position that they do not consider working anywhere else.”
The company has more 5-star reviews than any contractor in Maine and is the top-rated remodeling services provider in the state. O’Shea attributes this to an emphasis on not only pleasing customers but a sincere desire to seek more.
“Our goal is not merely just customer satisfaction but exceeding expectations,” O’Shea said. “The basis of the positive feedback we receive is flatly, customer service,” he said. “The individual parts of customer service are knowledge, transparency, flexibility, and communication.”
That focus has resulted in long-lasting relationships with clients who continue to praise O’Shea Builders on social media.
“Responded quickly to inquiries and changes made during process. His team completely renovated two rooms in an ancient house without a single level board in the place, and they did an outstanding job. They also built a great set of stairs leaving the building. Highly recommend Warren for whatever your needs.” Angeline M.
“O’Shea Builders were instrumental in helping us sell our house. On multiple occasions, they came in with very little notice and fixed various problems that came up when our house was on the market. Once under contract, we needed to replace a large section of the wood floors in our kitchen. For a very affordable price and without notice, they did a beautiful job on the repair which included matching new flooring to an old/worn wooden floor. We can’t wait to get started with them in our new house!” John W.
“Wish we could give Warren and O’Shea Builders 10 stars. They were very responsive and professional. They not only did the repairs in a timely fashion, but they also made great suggestions for future repairs.” Karen B.
Serving most of Southern Maine and the Coastal and Lakes Region, O’Shea Builders has earned a stellar reputation through the years for quality, exceptional craftsmanship, thinking differently and responsiveness but O’Shea says its underlying core value is simple.
“It’s about creating relationships with our clients and being intuitive to their needs,” O’Shea said. “We get to know them to help them find their dream.”

Owned and operated by Rick Robbins and his wife Nicole, the company’s core services include general pest control by addressing common household pests such as ants, cockroaches, spiders, and rodents through targeted treatments and prevention strategies, including organic options for environmentally conscious customers. It also provides bed bug extermination and mosquito and tick treatments.
“At RPS, we are dedicated to providing the best pest control solutions while prioritizing safety, effectiveness, and customer satisfaction,” Rick Robbins said. “Whether you’re looking for an eco-friendly mosquito solution or need reliable protection from other pests, we have you covered.”
Robbins said that the company is excited to announce the addition of In2Care mosquito treatments, a revolutionary approach to mosquito control that reduces reliance on traditional chemical sprays.
“Unlike monthly fogging treatments, In2Care targets mosquito breeding sites, stopping mosquitoes before they become a problem,” he said. “The In2Care system uses an innovative mosquito trap that attracts egg-laying female mosquitoes. Once inside, they pick up an EPA-approved bioactive ingredient that not only kills adult mosquitoes but also spreads to nearby breeding sites, disrupting the mosquito life cycle.”
According to Robbins, one of the biggest advantages of In2Care is that it does not harm bees, butterflies, or other essential pollinators.
“Unlike traditional spraying methods that can affect all insects in the area, In2Care specifically targets mosquitoes, making it a safer choice for homeowners who want to protect their gardens and the environment,” he said.
Along with this cutting-edge mosquito solution, RPS continues to provide full-service pest control for homes, businesses, and property managers.
“Our expert team is equipped to handle all sorts of pests including rodents such as mice and rats, ants and crawling insects, bedbugs and cockroaches, and also offers traditional mosquito and tick treatments for those who prefer or require conventional methods,” Robbins said.
Robbins said that the company is keenly aware that every customer's pest control needs are unique.
“That's why we offer a variety of customizable plans to accommodate different schedules, budgets, and pest concerns,” he said. “Whether it's a one-time treatment or ongoing maintenance, we work closely with our customers to develop a plan that fits their specific requirements. We also understand the unique pest control needs of businesses and offer tailored solutions to keep commercial properties pest-free and in compliance with health and safety regulations, including organic treatments for businesses seeking environmentally friendly options.”
He says what sets Robbins Pest Services apart from the competition is its exceptional commitment to customer satisfaction.
“As a family business, we prioritize personalized solutions tailored to each customer's needs,” Robbins said. “Our experienced team stays ahead of the curve with innovative techniques while promoting sustainability. We offer organic options for those seeking environmentally friendly solutions, ensuring effective pest control with minimal environmental impact. Ultimately, we're dedicated to making our customers happy and providing peace of mind. We aim to keep things competitive without sacrificing quality. Our prices are fair and upfront, and do not include hidden fees. We might not always be the cheapest, but we're all about giving you value. And we have different service plans to suit your needs. Our goal is to make sure you're getting top-notch pest control without breaking the bank. It's all about giving you the best bang for your buck.”
Having worked in the Pest Control industry for more than a decade, Robbins said that he recognizes the importance of offering reliable and personalized pest control services that prioritize both quality and community well-being.
“Leveraging that experience in the industry and fueled by a passion for making homes and businesses pest-free, my wife and I established Robbins Pest Services,” he said. “From day one, we've infused every aspect of our business with a family touch, ensuring that each customer receives the care and attention they deserve. Our mission is simple, to protect your family and property as if they were our own, all while building a stronger, pest-free community together. We are deeply rooted in family values and community. Business Spotlight: Bailey Direct Primary Care
In healthcare, improved access makes all the difference in realizing improved outcomes.
To that end, Bailey Direct Primary Care was created to give patients unparalleled access to a primary care provider, and you’ll never be required to be put on hold by a front desk, have to deal with an answering service or face questions from a billing specialist just to make an appointment a month from when you need one. Instead, you can call Bailey Direct Primary Care directly, day or night, seven days a week.
Located at 944 Roosevelt Trail Suite 14 in Windham, Bailey Direct Primary Care offers highly competitive pricing and allows them to spend more time with patients and offer more individualized and personal care.
Direct Primary Care is an alternative healthcare model gaining in popularity that eliminates co-payments and health insurance billing. Instead, patients pay their primary care providers a flat recurring annual or monthly fee for routine services, such as quarterly exams and routine lab testing, as well as enhanced services such as telehealth, virtual and easier access for those who may have limited access to transportation or have a longer commute.
The Bailey Direct Primary Care practice is a husband-and-wife team dedicated to forging strong relationships with those they serve and providing the best care with transparent pricing.
Julie Bailey, FNP-C, has been a Family Nurse Practitioner since 2017. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, she has gained experience in multiple specialties including Urology, General Cardiology, Cardiac Electrophysiology and Primary Care. Bob Bailey, BHA, has extensive experience in Healthcare Administration, serving in practice leadership for multiple primary care practices as well as specialty practices and urgent care. He also maintains certification as a clinical medical assistant.
“For a simple monthly membership, patients get unlimited visits, same-day or next-day appointments, direct access to their provider by phone or text, and transparent pricing with no co-pays, and no surprise bills,” Bob Bailey said. “We’re able to focus on preventive care, chronic disease management, and truly listening to our patients. It’s affordable, accessible, and built around the patient's needs.”
The couple opened Bailey Direct Primary Care on Feb. 3 after dreaming for years of opening their own private practice and providing healthcare the way it should be – focused on patients.
At Bailey Direct Primary Care, they understand that seeking medical care can be a stressful experience. That's why their team of compassionate medical professionals is dedicated to providing their patients with the highest level of care possible in a warm and welcoming environment without making you feel rushed or pressured to get through the visit.
“Traditional primary care practices have long wait times for appointments as the national average is about three weeks for established patients in primary care, long waiting lists for new patients, large patient panels of upward of 2,000-plus patients per provider, if not more, Julie Bailey said. “The Direct Primary Care model allows a smaller patient panel, same day or next day appointments, flexibility with appointment scheduling after hours or on weekends if needed, longer appointment times of at least 30 to 60 minutes, deep discounts on lab work and medications at a fraction of the price elsewhere. A smaller panel of patients allows the patient to be known by their primary care provider and build a therapeutic and trusting relationship and time to focus on the patient along with their unique individual needs and goals.”
While their regular fees are comparable to other Direct Primary Care practices in the surrounding area, as a new practice, Bailey Direct Primary Care is seeking to grow in the area, and they are currently running special pricing which offers a significant discount and waives a one-time registration fee, making their pricing truly competitive.
“For less than the cost of a monthly phone bill, you get unlimited, direct access to a primary care provider who truly cares about your health,” Bob Bailey said. “No insurance red tape, no surprise bills, just great care when you need it with transparent pricing and no hidden fees, deductibles, or co-pays for primary care services. Your health is our priority with easy access, responsive service and same day/next day appointments.”

Business Spotlight: Yarmouth Direct Primary Care
The days of waiting for weeks for a medical appointment or days spent trying to speak with a doctor are over for patients at Yarmouth Direct Primary Care. And for many of them, it’s certainly a life-changing experience.
Dr. John Daggett founded Yarmouth Direct Primary Care in January and the practice’s flexibility allows him to reach patients where they need to be seen, including home visits, on-site evaluations, online or in the office.
“Despite being headquartered in Yarmouth, I have connected with many patients from the Lakes Region who work in greater Portland, and I hope to expand my presence in the Windham area with patients and small businesses,” Daggett said.
Direct Primary Care is a healthcare model where patients pay their primary care physician a monthly or annual fee in exchange for unlimited access to primary care services. It includes preventive care, routine checkups, chronic disease management, common primary care procedures such as joint injections, skin biopsies, and access to laboratory tests as an alternative to traditional health insurance and does not require patients to have insurance coverage.
As such, it eliminates the need for physicians to bill insurance companies, which can reduce overhead and costs allowing Daggett to focus on providing individualized attention to his patients.
“I am so excited to be practicing primary care in a direct care model. As someone who has practiced primary care for some time, I commit to listening to my patients and thinking broadly about what may be going on with them and their health,” he said. “I like to think outside the box and be creative in how best my patients can access my care, and that doesn't always mean I will be sitting in the clinic all day. I want to get on the road, to the job site, on the phone or to pursue other channels to reach my patients where they are at, and I coordinate their care.”
Daggett says that Direct Primary Care is an exciting model that places the patient first.
“As a physician, I feel strongly that the public should be able to access my services without significant barriers. As an internal medicine physician, I trained nearly 9,000 hours during my residency followed by eight years thus far as a general internist in active practice,” he said. “My experience in adult medicine includes time spent training in all the various subspecialty fields and maintaining relationships with many subspecialists in the state.”
Daggett manages chronic conditions and assesses new conditions as they come up for my patients.
“This model gives me the time to advocate for my patients and have clear, direct communication with them,” he said. “It allows me focus on patient concerns.”
According to Daggett, Yarmouth Direct Primary Care doesn’t charge enrollment fees and doesn't require a minimum commitment, so it reduces the barriers for patients to experience the value of having a doctor on call for their healthcare needs.
“Regarding the level of one-on-one care, personalized attention, and unlimited access to a physician who knows you well, I think this is where the value is really felt by my patients within weeks of joining,” he said.
The traditional concierge medicine model offered extended time and one-on-one attention, but at a substantial price with retainer fees reaching into the $4,000 to $5,000 price range.
“Direct care brings that price down in my case to $125 per month to be a member of the clinic,” Daggett said. “I never bill insurance over and above that fee, so even if someone has a horrible month and has to see me six times for an ongoing illness, that would all be included in the membership fee.”
As a husband, father, brother and son, Daggett has been a patient and has had loved ones become ill and need the help of a primary care physician.
“This can be some of the most stressful times one may experience, so you want to have confidence in your physician and know they will be available for you when you need them,” he said. “I am down to earth in my approach, enjoying the cordial conversations with patients about their care and lives. When I answer the phone in the office, I can't tell you how many patients have commented that it was the first time they ever spoke with a physician on the phone. I have the time to make those personal connections and reach out to follow up with all of my patients directly. It is what physicians want, and it is what patients want, so I am thrilled to have the space to practice this way.”

According to Chris, combining construction and design in one company saves customers time and money.
“That makes an enormous difference if a client is looking for a seamless and efficient construction process. It can be emotionally draining when a client is stuck between their builder and their designer,” he said. “Or, in most instances, between their builder and their spouse for example. We cut out that stress. We communicate efficiently, and often since we are under the same roof. We really are a true ‘Maine’ couple that loves building a client's dream home, and we do it as if it's our own money. We don't waste time or money, and we really get invested. We care about the final result from the start right up until the very last day of work.”
He said Coastal Construction and Design is passionate about making high-end style accessible for all.
“We work with you to transform your environment into a comforting, timeless space so you can share it with those you love most,” Chris said.
“Having a custom home builder and designer under one roof keeps the building process efficient and effective. We believe that the best design solutions can only be realized when design and construction go hand in hand. That’s what makes us different.”
Diana says the couple’s ability to bounce ideas off one another and become energized with creativity on every job they take on creates a worthwhile final result.
“We also strive to have multiple subcontractors on the same page and that makes for smooth projects,” she said.
Best known for large-scale renovations, most Coastal Construction and Design jobs consist of kitchens, bathrooms and mudrooms.
“We focus on high quality specialty features in areas of a home that really wow our clients,” Diana said. “We specialize in problem solving and tackling even the most perplexing layouts. Are you dreaming of a beautifully renovated kitchen or living room that perfectly embodies your style and enhances your everyday living experience? We’re here to give you the home of your dreams, starting with your hardest working rooms.”
As a small company, Coastal Construction and Design can deliver extremely competitive pricing with exceptional results.
“I am certain our pricing is extremely competitive,” Diana said. “We pride ourselves on encouraging our clients to spend where it matters, and only where it matters. Design features do not have to be pricey. We can get the ‘look for less’ and have a truly magazine-worthy result, with budget-friendly materials like the tile, or the knobs, or sometimes the lighting.”
The couple says that most Maine homeowners can benefit from finding a company that drafts the plans, designs the entire home, builds their home, and then furnishes it, making it more efficient and a less stressful experience.
“That's where we excel,” Diana said. “We’re not the quickest or the cheapest, but we are honest.”
Chris started his career working for other contractors before deciding to launch his own business in 2014. At the time, Diana was a stay-at-home mom but loved design and helped her husband with ideas on the side all the time.
“So, I asked him ‘why did you put 'design' in the name," she said. “He said it was for me, in the future, when I was ready. Fast forward to 2019 when my daughter started Kindergarten, and I was ready to work full time.”

Business Spotlight: Big Swing Golf Sim
If all goes according to plan, a new recreational facility will be opening locally in March where golfers can tee off year-round. Big Swing Golf Sim will feature sophisticated golf simulators and other golfing-related activities for residents of Windham and the surrounding area.
“With the latest and greatest golf simulator software, Big Swing Golf Sim will provide high quality fun and top of the line accuracy to improve their game,” Dufour said. “Our tracking system not only records your swing and the strike for you to play back and review, it also will provide accurate specifics of ball movement.”
The Big Swing Golf Sim offers five 16-foot advanced golf simulator bays with high-definition graphics that have more than 1,000 courses around the country. Customers will also be able to switch the big game onto the bay projector to really feel immersed in the game. The simulators offer unmatched realism with dazzling 4K graphics, ultra-realistic ball physics and ultra-fast response times.
No matter if you're playing solo, teaming up with your friends or families, and regardless of age or skill level, Big Swing Golf Sim delivers maximum fun.
“Our bays will be outfitted with cable access so you can watch the big game and golf at the same time,” Dufour said. “A sixth bay will be introduced shortly after opening. On top of that, the facility will offer other activities such as darts, a putting green, cornhole, and shuffleboard. Big Swing Golf will also be serving both soft drinks, and a wide variety of beer.”
Dufour said the best thing about the new business is what it is going to mean for the community.
“It’s going to be a great relaxing fun place to go,” he said. “There will be something here to appeal to everyone.”
Featuring competitive pricing, Dufour said that Big Swing Golf Sim will offer convenient memberships which will save frequent consumers money the more that they stop by to play.
“Although our focus is to provide high quality golf simulators, we also want to create a sports environment that can also be interactive,” Dufour said. “Bring your friends, play some golf, throw some darts or bags, and enjoy yourself.”
As Big Swing Golf settles in, Dufour envisions recreational leagues launching and becoming a popular place for birthday celebrations or a great place to have a party.
“Each bay can be converted into a big screen television, and you’ll still be able to golf at the same time,” he said. “The simulators will have an arcade function which can be used for kids’ parties.”
Dufour attended college in this area and says he craved a place where he could join his friends to enjoy a beer but also to interact with them in fun activities.
“I didn’t want to settle for going to Portland to achieve this or travel 30 minutes away,” he said. “Windham is a friendly, beautiful, and developing town that deserves to have a place for its residents to enjoy remaining active during the evening while enjoying their favorite beer.”
To become a successful business, Dufour said that Big Swing Golf Sim will be responsive to customer needs.
“It all comes down to providing a service that our customers can really get behind,” he said. “We want to be able to receive feedback from our customers and to build a great product and are able to upgrade and adapt as we go along.”

Business Spotlight: Vigor Strength Studio
Vigor Strength Studio is a raw and high energy strength and conditioning training studio at 39 Mechanic St. in downtown Westbrook that opened in 2021. Co-Owners Zachary Russell and Julian Despres both grew up in Southern Maine and found their passion for helping others with their health and wellness.
“People that train at our gym are there to get things done the right way. Our clientele ranges from complete beginners to adept exercisers, and most of them simply want the general physical benefits of exercise and strength training; they are training to live long and healthy lives doing what they love,” says co-owner and coach Julian Despres.
Its gym puts a huge emphasis on moving in pain free, sustainable ways. We don’t just want your squat to look good, for example, we want it to feel good too! We teach proper movement (feeling the right muscles at the right times during exercises) so that you can train hard with no real pain and continue to get the results you’re after. We establish your initial goals before and during your first free session, and periodically after that we will need to set new ones.
Coaches design workouts as part of overarching programs that are created after meeting with you for the first time. Its young team has a combined training experience of over 30 years between them. They work next to each other every day and learn new ways to keep exercises feeling fresh and effective.
Vigor’s primary service is semi-private training sessions, where two to four people share their strength coach’s time. Each person has their own individual exercises to focus on specific to their goals. Think of the other few members in your session like your squad, they can help you in more ways than you’d think: from motivating you to keep going, to helping load your bar, to finding the kettlebell you need, or to spotting you through a set. Coaches like to keep people consistently working out with the same squad each week if schedules allow, building camaraderie and fostering productive energy. We do offer 1 on 1 training, but it is only at certain times when the gym is less busy.
Their strength and conditioning coaches also have experience training groups of athletes from high school level all the way to D1 college sports. Currently, coach Jaryd Penn works with Westbrook High baseball players, as well as a variety of hockey players from different training camps while co-owner and coach Zach Russell is working with the Windham High basketball team on its movement quality and mobility.
Coaches work hard to push your limits so that you get the most out of your sessions and to get your money’s-worth every single workout and stay safe while doing it. It starts with effective but brief warm up circuits to help address joint mobility issues, activate the muscles we aim to use, and raise the heart rate.
Once warmed up, they move into their primary exercises which are specific to each individual at Vigor. Everyone has different exercise focuses, postures, muscular strengths, and weaknesses that we work on. Coaches believe that training should be challenging and should stimulate mental growth as much as anything physical.
Coaches write exercises and notes down diligently, tracking the sets and repetitions closely so that we continue to push toward better and better performances, the longer you train with them the better they can dial it into what you need. Their gym is a melting pot of positive goals and productive physical activity. They are driven to build a stronger community, and they can’t wait to meet you!
To schedule your free first session with one of their great coaches, contact them by email at vigor.maine@gmail.com or call/ text them at 207-615-1990. You can also check them out on Facebook and Instagram. <

Coaches are experts at modifying exercises depending on the individual, making them easier or more challenging. However, our exercise circuits work for most everyone, athletes and the general population alike.

Business Spotlight: Monroe & Conley Financial Group
Accomplished financial services advisors Kevin Monroe and Zack Conley bring invaluable experience and an innovative mindset benefiting clients to the Monroe & Conley Financial Group.
With locations in Raymond and Alfred, Monroe & Conley offer wealth management, retirement planning, legacy planning, life insurance and annuity products. They help advise their clients about disability and long-term care situations, along with giving recommendations regarding estate planning attorneys to work with as they believe this fits hand in hand with a solid financial future.
“The most significant aspect of our business is the relationship we have with our clients,” Conley said.
Monroe has been in business since 1992 and has many clients who have been with him since the start. Conley, 28, has been in business since 2016. They are accepting new clients and book by appointment only.
“It allows our clients to have continuity with their finances and they get the best of both worlds,” Monroe and Conley said. “They get an older more experienced advisor. Yet they also receive a younger advisor with a new perspective on business and the world of economics. Our clients also know that with this set up, God willing, they likely won’t have to hire another advisor as Zack has 30-plus years ahead of him.”
The most important thing that Monroe and Conley want their clients to know is that as independent advisors they act as a fiduciary, meaning they don’t have any products or services that they “have” to sell.
“We always say, ‘tell us your story’ and always start with a blank sheet of paper. This allows us to not have any agenda,” they said. “We believe that a true advisor should listen more than talk. As an independent firm we are not beholding to any one company. This allows us the ability to work with any company we deem fit for our clients. We truly ‘price out’ different companies and ‘shop’ what we feel is best for our clients. This allows us to make recommendations with nothing but our client in mind. Another important thing is that when you call our office you aren’t calling an 800 number. You get to know our staff and it creates a long-lasting relationship with not just our advisors, but with our awesome office staff.”
Both Monroe and Conley previously worked for a national firm for many years. Over the past few years, landscape began changing in the financial services industry and in September 2024 they decided to go fully independent and open Monroe & Conley Financial Group. They believe that this move was in the best interest of their clients, allowing them to continue to offer objective advice and service. When Monroe started his career in 1992, he was focused on the importance of life insurance. As the business evolved, he moved into the wealth management business which quickly took off. When Conley started in 2016, he and Monroe quickly connected, and now as an independent firm, they plan to continue to maintain exceptional service for their clients.
“We fell in love with the business due to our love for helping others,” they said. “We felt this was what we were called to do and since starting we've never looked back. We take each client and situation one at a time and slowly build respect and gain trust from our clients. Over the years, the products and services have evolved, yet our commitment to the people we serve has maintained the same. We treat others the way we want to be treated. We have always strived to put ourselves in our client’s shoes. With the knowledge we have compiled over the years, we look to do what they would do if it were their mom, dad, brother, sister or grandparents sitting across from them. This has created the family environment our clients have grown to love and enjoy.”
For the future, Monroe and Conley are excited to expand their team of advisors and office staff.
“The thought is that as the book of business continues to grow, we will find advisors who fit our culture and way of business,” they said. “This will allow us to ensure that each client gets the time and respect that they deserve as choosing a financial advisor is more than just a transaction, it is a decision that typically lasts for years and grows into a friendship. We are excited to find new advisors and if any advisors are interested in making the shift to be part of an independent firm or team, they are welcome to reach out.”

Business Spotlight: Waxwing Bakery
In a little more than a month since opening, Waxwing Bakery in Windham is drawing rave reviews for tasty products and exceptional customer service, and building a loyal and devoted customer base.
Conveniently located at 868 Roosevelt Trail in Windham, Waxwing is a bakery café specializing in laminated pastries and sourdough breads. It serves Tandem Coffee Roasters coffee and MEM teas and offers drip coffee and a variety of espresso-based drinks, as well as house-made chai lattes. The business is owned by Billy Hager and Hannah Buoye, who have years of food service experience and have run kitchens and bakeries in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Portland.
“All of our pastries and bread are hand-made by us onsite. We also strive to serve as much locally sourced products as possible,” Hannah said. “Our menu and its flavors change daily, weekly and seasonally. Menu staples include croissants, chocolate croissants, sweet and savory Danish pastries, morning buns, scones, quiche, sausage rolls, fruit buckle, loaf cake slices, layer cake slices and cookies. We do offer larger preorders and can accommodate whole cake, pie and quiche requests. We encourage people to reach out via our website if they would like to place such an order. And we hope to expand our menu offerings in the near future to include sandwiches, salad and some more breakfast options like a breakfast sandwich.”
What sets Waxwing apart from the competition is the quality and care with which they produce their products.
“We pride ourselves on the quality of ingredients, freshness of produce and strive to source from our local farms and producers. In addition to making high-quality food, we are also attempting to create a high-quality environment for people to enjoy them in,” Billy said. “We are making the food we like to make and creating the environment we want to spend time in, and we hope to become a place people want to frequent for those reasons.”
Before opening Waxwing, Hannah was the Kitchen Manager at Tandem Coffee and Bakery in Portland and Billy ran the kitchen at Helm Oyster Bar and Bistro and each offers management expertise from fine dining to fast casual concepts to Waxwing Bakery. Hannah’s background includes work as a pastry chef as well as a baker and Billy has been working in restaurants since he was in high school and has held positions as executive chef and manager as well as managing partner.
“Owning our own business has been a shared goal of ours. The San Francisco Bay Area food scene was a wonderful place to learn and gain experience, but it was impossible for us to achieve our life goals and start a business in the community we lived in,” Hannah said. “We moved to Maine in 2019 in hopes of establishing ourselves in a food community where we would be able to eventually own our own business. We bought a house in Windham in 2022 and immediately knew we would want to eventually open a business here. We have created a home here in Windham and we want to create an extension of that with Waxwing. We want to share our expertise and experience in food service with our neighbors and build a business that people want to return to.”
Online reviews are simply outstanding.
“Everything we've tried has been delicious! Like others have said, this place is a real gem – definitely give them a try!” Crystal M.
“I’ve been 3 times, and everything is so good. The croissants are most impressive and delicious!” Cathy B.
“Finally!!! This bakery has the tastiest treats! Fresh sourdough - still warm from the oven, decadent quiche, and the most delicious brown butter rye sea salt chocolate chip cookie I have ever tasted! So glad to have them in Windham!” Amy T.
Waxwing Bakery is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.

Along with the food and drinks they serve, the goal of Waxwing Bakery is to provide a space for the community to gather in what is sometimes referred to as a ‘third place,” she said. No matter if you’re stopping in to grab a coffee and breakfast pastry on your way to work, looking for a place to work outside the house, or meeting up with friends to catch up and enjoy a latte and croissant, Waxwing strives to become the go-to place for meeting those needs.
What sets Waxwing apart from the competition is the quality and care with which they produce their products.
