Business Spotlight: Remington Insurance

Navigating insurance plans, benefits and costs can be confusing, especially as coverage options continue to change. The team at Remington Insurance helps clients understand their options, review the details and make informed decisions about their coverage.

Zack and Karen Remington are the founders of Remington Insurance, an independent insurance agency. Originally founded in 1999 in Vermont, the company relocated to Maine in 2015 and is now based in Cornish. For more than 25 years, the independent agency has helped clients navigate their insurance needs while providing the personal attention of a local, family-owned business.

The agency specializes in Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement and Part D Prescription Drug Coverage. It also offers Home and Auto Insurance, Renters, Business, Life, Dental, Vision and Pet Insurance, along with Annuities and Retirement Planning.

Working with multiple insurance companies allows the agency to compare plans, benefits, networks and costs to help clients choose coverage that provides the benefits they need at a cost that makes sense for them.

“Our approach is simple: understand what the client needs, review the options available and help them make an informed decision,” said Zack Remington. “Karen and I both came from social-services backgrounds, and that experience taught us the importance of listening and understanding each person’s circumstances. From there we compare benefits, costs, provider networks, medications and potential gaps in coverage.”

That same careful review extends beyond Medicare. With Life Insurance, for example, the agency considers whether existing coverage is Term or Whole Life, how long it will remain in place and whether premiums may increase over time. With Retirement Planning, the conversation may include whether savings are exposed to more risk than a client is comfortable with or whether a portion should be protected. Home and Auto Insurance and other coverage can also be reviewed for gaps, changing needs and available options.

“Our goal is to help clients find appropriate coverage at a reasonable cost without sacrificing the benefits they need,” said Karen Remington. “We value long-term relationships and work on behalf of our clients rather than for any one insurance company. We remain available after enrollment, stay in contact throughout the year and encourage regular reviews as plans, benefits, and costs change.”

The Remington Insurance team includes Zack and Karen’s daughter, Alexandra, who provides sales support and reviews clients’ Auto Insurance needs. When she is not in the office, Alexandra can often be found at the family farm teaching riding lessons or working with the horses.

Zack and Karen first met office support specialist Dori Smith when she helped them search for their senior dog, Trixie. That chance meeting grew into a friendship, and Dori has now been with the agency for seven years. She provides outreach, conducts regular client check-ins and remains an integral part of the Remington Insurance team.

The agency serves clients throughout Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire and Florida. Its multistate licensing allows Zack and Karen to continue working with longtime clients who move, travel seasonally, or maintain connections in more than one state.

Zack and Karen met in 1994 while working in a residential treatment program for boys. That experience helped shape the patient, individualized approach they later brought to insurance and remains central to how they serve clients today.

Client Dana Tarbox described his experience with the agency:

“Remington Insurance was a tremendous help with getting my ex-wife set up with her initial insurance, and now that she is turning 65, setting her up with Medicare A, B, C and D. She would not have been able to do this on her own. As for myself, Zack set me up with great insurance at a reasonable price. I highly recommend them.”

With Medicare’s Annual Election Period running from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, now is a good time for Medicare beneficiaries to review their coverage for the coming year. Medicare Supplement plans are different and are not limited to the Annual Election Period.

Remington Insurance also hosts free “Medicare Made Easy” Cider and Donut Socials at its Cornish office, with future events posted on the agency’s website. Current Events Thursday, Sept. 17 at 5 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m., Thursdays in October at 2 p.m. on Oct. 1, Oct. 8, Oct. 15, Oct. 22 and Oct 29. Call to reserve your seat.

People can schedule a preliminary 30-minute phone appointment through the Remington Insurance website or contact the office directly, to be followed by a full phone or in person appointment if you choose.

Business Spotlight: Prana Nordic

A new Scandinavian-inspired wellness retreat called Prana Nordic has opened in Raymond and is a place where visitors can slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience the Lakes Region in a way that encourages true rest and renewal.

Prana Nordic is a Scandinavian forest retreat
where guests may reserve private in-cabin
wellness treatments offering Ayurvedic
Bodywork such as Marma Therapy, Abhyanga,
and Reflexology, creating a relaxing
experience unlike anything else in the area.

Located in Raymond near Sebago Lake, Prana Nordic is a Scandinavian forest retreat offering three thoughtfully designed boutique cabins that combine modern Nordic design with the natural beauty of the Lakes Region. Guests can enjoy private outdoor saunas, kayaks, bike rides, fire pits, and peaceful wooded surroundings while exploring everything the Sebago Lake region has to offer.

“What makes Prana Nordic unique is the optional wellness experience available to guests,” said Lindsey, co-owner at Prana Nordic. “Through my separate wellness practice, Ayurvedic Alchemy, guests may reserve private in-cabin wellness treatments that offer Ayurvedic Bodywork such as Marma Therapy, Abhyanga, and Reflexology, creating a relaxing retreat experience unlike anything else in the area.

“We’re creating a modern Maine retreat centered around nature, privacy and wellness, while still giving guests the freedom to make the experience entirely their own,” she said. “There are three parts to Prana Nordic:, the woods come first. We kept the land intact and the whole property was tucked into the forest so you feel like you can step off your deck and disappear into it. Time spent moving slowly among trees does something no amenity can replicate. The Japanese call it forest bathing. We just built around it. Then the heat. Every cabin has its own sauna and outdoor shower, both private to that cabin and included in the rate rather than shared or added on. Ojas cabin, which sits up on a knoll with the most secluded outdoor space on the property, also has a hot tub and a dedicated cold plunge, so guests there get the full Scandinavian circuit of heat, cold, and rest without leaving their own private space. And then Ayurveda, which is really the heart of it.”

Lindsey and Mike are certified Ayurvedic Health Counselors, trained at the Mahatma School of Ayurveda in Vermont. Guests can add Ayurvedic bodywork, a guided seasonal cleanse, or a one-on-one wellness consultation to any stay. Ayurveda treats wellbeing as a question of energy and constitution rather than symptoms and it pairs naturally with the restorative effects Prana Nordic has to offer within its forest setting.

“Everything is designed to flow together on the property, so guests can move from an indoor or outdoor treatment to the sauna, outdoor shower, hot tub or cold plunge without ever having to leave,” she said. “And when they do want to explore, Sebago Lake is just minutes away, with the lake, hiking trails and the Frye Island ferry nearby. The latter is just a 5-minute walk from the cabins. The idea is that guests can make their stay as active or as restorative as they want it to be.”

Local residents can also experience Prana Nordic’s Ayurvedic offerings, including bodywork and wellness consultations, without booking an overnight stay.

“Ultimately, we want Prana Nordic to be somewhere you can come for an Ayurvedic appointment, a weekend away, or choose a more immersive wellness experience,” she said. “We’re especially excited about multi-day retreats that bring together the cabins, Ayurvedic treatments, hydrotherapy, nourishing meals and time in nature.”

Lindsey and Mike moved to Raymond from Boston with the dream of building tiny homes in nature near the water, the mountains, and among the trees.

“We’re both yogis, and along the way we trained at the Mahatma School of Ayurveda in Vermont and completed the Ayurvedic Health Counselor program,” Lindsey said. “Our shared passion for Ayurveda and Vedic philosophy naturally became part of the foundation of Prana Nordic and the experience we wanted to share with our guests.”

Since opening in July, that vision has already resonated with guests, with Prana Nordic receiving exceptional early reviews.

“Beautiful and quiet area. Perfect getaway for a couple. We enjoyed it so much, several nights we just cooked at the cabin rather than going out to eat. 5/5, and we will definitely be back.”

“This was a gorgeous cabin… [and] was well appointed… the lovely outdoor shower was so nice, and the sauna was a great addition. Everything was peaceful and quiet. They even had milk, coffee, tea and wine ready for us. Super nice touches!”

“The place is absolutely wonderful, and staying in the cabin is such an experience! Every detail in the cabin is so well thought through, from the outdoor lighting to the little amenities in the bathroom…”

Business Spotlight: Signature Homes Real Estate Group

Whether you’re searching for your first home, your next home or preparing to sell, Signature Homes Real Estate Group is ready to help.

The Scoville Foley Team at Signature Homes Real Estate
Group represents Windham Village, a new condominium
community offering thoughtfully designed one- and
two-bedroom homes in a convenient low-maintenance
setting. COURTESY PHOTO

With convenient offices in Windham, Falmouth and Scarborough, the locally owned brokerage assists buyers and sellers throughout Maine and parts of New Hampshire. Services include buyer and seller representation, pricing and market analysis, preparing and positioning homes for sale, professional marketing, staging guidance, negotiation and hands-on transaction management from the initial consultation through closing.

“We help people buy and sell homes, but ultimately, we’re helping them move on to the next chapter in their lives,” said Amy Foley of The Scoville Foley Team at Signature Homes Real Estate Group.

Led by Amy Foley and Carrie Scoville, The Scoville Foley Team brings more than 50 years of combined real estate experience to its clients. Supported by a dedicated team of agents and administrative professionals, the team is committed to making the buying and selling process as seamless and enjoyable as possible.

Known for their experience, negotiation skills and personalized approach, The Scoville Foley Team consistently ranks among the top 1 percent of real estate brokers in Maine.

The team also has extensive experience working with builders and developers on new-construction communities, assisting with everything from product positioning and pricing to marketing strategy, buyer education, contract coordination and the sale of individual homes.

“In Windham, we are currently representing Windham Village, a new condominium community offering thoughtfully designed one- and two-bedroom homes in a convenient, low-maintenance setting,” Foley said. “We want people to know that we are a locally owned company with deep Maine roots, and we genuinely care about the people and communities we serve.”

Foley said whether someone is purchasing a first home, downsizing, selling a longtime family property, relocating or considering new construction, they deserve experienced representation and straightforward advice.

“We take that responsibility seriously,” she said. “Our clients are making significant financial and personal decisions, and our role is to make sure they feel informed, supported and well represented throughout the process.”

The company also wants Windham residents to know its local presence goes well beyond simply having an office in town.

“Our Windham office is not just a satellite location,” Foley said. “We have a team of agents who understand the local market and are available to assist buyers and sellers throughout Windham and the surrounding region. We are invested in this community.”

New Homes at Windham Village

Windham Village includes four residential buildings, each featuring three floors and 12 condominium homes. Each floor includes four residences, with a mix of spacious one- and two-bedroom floor plans. Pricing for the new condominiums starts at $299,900. The developers are also offering a $10,000 incentive for a limited time. The first units will be ready to move in Nov. 13, just in time for the holidays!

“Windham Village offers a rare opportunity to purchase a brand-new home at a price point that is increasingly difficult to find in today’s market,” Foley said. Qualified buyers can own for as little as $2,100 per month.

The community is designed for buyers who want the benefits of new construction combined with a convenient, low-maintenance lifestyle. Residents will enjoy a community center with a gym, co-working spaces, community room, dog wash and dog park!

For clients selling an existing home, Foley said the team takes an equally individualized approach.

“Real estate services are not one-size-fits-all,” she said. “We customize our marketing and service plan based on the property, the client’s goals and the level of support they need. We focus on accurate pricing, professional marketing, experienced negotiation, consistent communication and hands-on transaction management.”

“The goal isn’t simply to put a property on the market,” Foley added. “It’s to help our clients achieve the strongest possible overall outcome.”

What Clients Are Saying

Online reviews of The Scoville Foley Team at Signature Homes Real Estate Group reflect that commitment to service.

The entire process from start to finish was excellent! I can't think of even one thing to criticize. They are relatable, fast, knowledgeable, accommodating, and fun!” — Lindsay H.

“Amy is a fantastic Realtor and an expert in all facets of purchasing and selling homes. We were able to sell an investment property for well above asking and are now happy in our new residence. Thank you so much to Amy and her team!” — Travis G.

“Thank you for all your help in selling my parents’ house. With it being an estate sale, you were very understanding during a difficult time for us. I would definitely recommend you.” — Terri L.

Deep Roots in Maine Real Estate

Foley and Scoville began their real estate careers independently more than 20 years ago, each building a successful real estate business before deciding to partner in 2012. In 2018, they founded Signature Homes Real Estate Group.

Their philosophy has remained consistent throughout the company’s growth: clients should receive outstanding representation, thoughtful marketing, honest communication and highly personalized service.

While the company has expanded over the years, its focus remains the same — provide exceptional service, build lasting relationships and always put the client’s interests first.

Business Spotlight: Sampson Lawn Care

Keeping properties neat and lawns healthy year-round is the mission of Sampson Lawn Care and it’s a responsibility that the company doesn’t take lightly.

Corinne and Scott Sampson own and operate Sampson Lawn
Care. They believe their professionalism and attention t
detail is what sets them apart.
Based in Gorham and serving the Lakes Region of Maine, Sampson Lawn Care is owned and operated by Scott and Corinne Sampson, who have grown the business over the past decade through expertise, attention to detail, reliable service, and plenty of hard work.

Services offered for residential and commercial locations include almost anything to do with lawns. They perform mowing, fertilizing, aerating and overseeding, spring and fall cleanups, lawn installs, repairs, and restorations, bed installations, mulching, de-thatching, and hedge trimming. Soil testing and consulting services are available as well, and they can deliver local materials as needed. During winter months, Sampson Lawn Care handles plowing and snow removal for driveways, private roads, and commercial properties.

“We are a one-stop shop all year-round,” said Scott Sampson. “Mowing, fertilizing, and plowing are our most sought-after services. A lot of other landscaping companies offer hardscaping in addition to their lawn services, but we chose fertilizing. It’s an area of expertise that takes time to learn the material and obtain your license with the state. There are other fertilizing companies sure, but they generally specialize in treatment, and don’t offer everything else that we do. We can care for your lawn fully from install, to mowing and maintenance, to treating any turf issues. You don’t have to pay and coordinate three separate companies for your yard each summer, we can take care of it all.”

Scott launched the business after he did a cleanup for a realtor. That turned into a recurring service, which turned into multiple customers, and eventually into a full-time business.

Pricing for Sampson Lawn Care is always fair and affordable.

“We are never going to be the cheapest around, but we aren’t the most expensive either,” Sampson said. “We don’t strive to be the lowest price. We strive to offer the best quality. The amount of referral business we get speaks for itself.”

Proud to be a veteran-owned business, Sampson Lawn Care is dedicated to quality work and quality service in every job it takes on.

“The number of new customers that we receive that mention they saw we were veteran-owned, whether they saw it in an ad or on the trucks, is very high,” Sampson said.

Corinne Sampson says the company receives many new customers based upon referrals or from those who’ve seen work performed by Sampson Lawn Care crews.

“I think that speaks for itself,” she said. “Scott started this business as a solo operator on the side of his full-time job because he enjoyed it and has always been a hard worker. Having served in the Marines he has a very high bar set in everything he does. You don’t do anything halfway, in anything you do you should do it to a level you are proud of. I think one of the things we can be most proud of is our ability to grow organically. We have maintained growth, but haven’t hired people just to have people to do the work. We have maintained Scott’s original level of quality, which is a high bar. We have an incredible team, and we have really prioritized that in our growth. We hire the right people who care to do a good job, and who work well as a team. We definitely have a team culture here that encourages people to stick around. We get a lot of positive feedback on our work, but we also get a lot of positive feedback on our crew, and that’s something to be proud of.”

She said community involvement is also an important aspect of Sampson Lawn Care.

“When you support our business, you are supporting your neighbors,” said Corinne Sampson. “We are family owned and our kids are fifth generation here in Gorham. We were excited to have grown to the point where we hired two Gorham High School students for the first time last summer who both came back this year. We are involved in the local parades and the youth sports. We stand by our work and our community.”

Business Spotlight: Long Beach Marina

For nearly 40 years, Long Beach Marina on Sebago Lake has built a loyal following by combining personalized service with one of the things boat owners value most: convenience.

Secure indoor boat storage is an important part of Long Beach
Marina's approach to winter boat care with 24,000 square
feet of indoor storage racks capable of handling 200 boats.
SUBMITTED PHOTO
Long Beach Marina originally opened in 1947, and the Minervino family purchased the property in 1988. Sam and Jan Minervino bought the business from Sam’s parents in 2000 and have continued to invest in the property and their dedicated crew, while maintaining the family atmosphere and personalized attention associated with the marina.

A dedicated service department was added in 2019, expanding the marina’s ability to provide year-round care. Long Beach Marina has added a 24,000 square foot indoor rack storage building, capable of handling 200 boats, allowing more boat owners to take advantage of its complete seasonal service.

Today, the marina offers everything from pontoon rentals and moorings to mechanical service, secure indoor boat storage and complete Dock-to-Dock service packages designed to take much of the work out of boat ownership.

For customers who would rather spend their time enjoying Sebago Lake than worrying about hauling, trailers, winterization and seasonal preparation, Long Beach Marina can handle the process from beginning to end.

Its Dock-to-Dock service offers convenience at both ends of the boating season. In the fall, customers can leave their boat on one of the marina’s moorings or arrange for Long Beach Marina to pick it up right from their dock. The marina pulls the boat from the water, handles the necessary end-of-season services including a bottom wash and complete winterization, then places it into secure indoor storage for the winter.

Secure indoor storage is an important part of the marina’s approach to boat care. Rather than leaving a vessel exposed to months of snow, ice, wind and changing Maine temperatures, customers can have their boat professionally prepared and stored indoors until boating season returns.

When spring arrives, the convenience works in reverse.

Long Beach Marina handles spring commissioning, gives the boat a rinse and launches it for the new season. Depending on the customer’s service arrangements, the boat can be ready for pickup or delivered back to the customer’s dock.

The idea is simple: Enjoying hassle-free boat ownership.

No truck or trailer is required, and owners do not have to coordinate multiple businesses for hauling, mechanical work, winterization, storage and spring launching. With Dock-to-Dock service, Long Beach Marina can essentially handle the boat from the final outing of one season to the first outing of the next.

Long Beach Marina also emphasizes straightforward and affordable pricing for its complete service packages. Customers are provided with an upfront cost for the services included in their package without unexpected hidden add-ons. Boat owners know what their seasonal care will cost while enjoying the convenience of having the work handled in one place.

Other end-of-season services can include bottom washing, winterization, shrink wrapping and storage, along with mechanical work or maintenance that may be needed, including gel coat, upholstery repair and accessory installation.

The experienced technicians, Jay and Rocco, provide mechanical repairs, routine maintenance and reconditioning in addition to seasonal preparation. Customers can choose individual services or a comprehensive package that allows the marina to manage virtually everything involved with taking a boat out of the water in the fall and returning it to the lake in the spring.

The service department is available to all customers, and boaters do not have to rent a seasonal mooring at Long Beach Marina to take advantage of service packages or secure indoor winter storage.

Long Beach Marina also maintains a fleet of pontoon boats for multi-day and weekly rentals. For boaters already on the water, its full-service fuel dock is easily accessible directly from the open lake, without tricky channels or rivers to navigate.

Nightly, weekend and weekly mooring rentals are also available seasonally, with shuttle service between shore and customers’ vessels. An easily accessible launch ramp provides another option for getting onto Sebago Lake.

Through it all, Long Beach Marina continues to focus on making boat ownership easier. From Dock-to-Dock pickup at the end of the season to secure indoor winter storage, preparation and delivery when spring returns. Its complete service packages offer an affordable, convenient way to spend less time worrying about the boat and more time enjoying Sebago Lake.

Long Beach Marina is located at 81 Sebago Road, Sebago. For more information about Dock-to-Dock service, secure indoor storage, mechanical service or seasonal boat care packages, visit longbeachmarina.com, where estimates are fast and easy using their online service forms. Business Spotlight: Sebago Cycle

Sebago Cycle is not your typical fitness facility. It’s a supportive, encouraging, and accepting place that strives to not only improve your physical well-being but your mental outlook as well.

fitness facility in Raymond that offers
spin cycling, boxing, yoga and sculpt
strength training. SUBMITTED PHOTO
With its studio at 1250 Roosevelt Trail in Raymond, Sebago Cycle specializes in a variety of group fitness classes such as spin cycling, boxing, yoga and sculpt strength training, under the guidance of owner LeTicia DeVaughn and her team of like-minded instructors.

“What sets Sebago Cycle apart is our environment and community. You will find the overhead lights come down, the party lights and bass turn up,” DeVaughn said. “There are no mirrors, no pressure, no judgement. Our clientele is comprised of individuals who come together with the desire to work out in a space that is truly inclusive and body positive. We strive to provide a space free of the pressures of a typical fitness establishment. Sebago Cycle is a space where you where you can get all the benefits of a great workout while feeling like you are just dancing at the club with your friends.”

She says Lakes Region residents now have a great local option to take an exciting fitness class and a convenient local studio featuring a broad variety of classes just off Route 302.

“Spin, boxing, and Pilates do not need to feel intimidating. We offer modifications and instructions for all fitness levels,” DeVaughn said. “You can work out and it does not feel like punishment. You can move your body, and it feels like you’re just partying with your friends.”

Pricing is competitive for a variety of options such as drop-in, class packages, or unlimited monthly memberships.

“Our pricing differs from other fitness establishments in that there are no contracts or cancellation fees for our monthly unlimited memberships,” DeVaughn said. “We believe in keeping clients because they desire to join us, not because they’re financially obligated to. We also offer a 10 percent discount on our monthly membership for veterans, first responders, and teachers. We love to offer seasonal specials on top of our established rates so be sure to keep an eye on our social media to take advantage of what discount we roll out next.”

DeVaughn used to live in Maryland where she was a stay-at-home mom struggling with postpartum and an autoimmune disease.

“A friend invited me a to a spin class at a studio near my neighborhood. I took my first class, and it was euphoric,” she said. “I found spin was the one workout I could consistently do without adding to my inflammation and needing to take days to recover. I attended classes so often eventually the staff approached me and asked if I would be interested in training to become an instructor. From there it just snowballed into me regaining my health and sense of self back. I dove into diversifying my skillset with not just spin but boxing, strength training, yoga, and Pilates as well. When we moved to Maine, I realized there were no studios that offered that environment or variety of classes, especially not locally. I wanted to be able to open a place where the people in my community could find themselves and enjoy working out again too. That is what I aim to provide here now with Sebago Cycle.”

Since opening March 1, Sebago Cycle is known for its unique blend of activities and its spin rides.

“Myself as well as my instructors utilize continuous training to ensure we stay up to date on all the best techniques and choreography,” DeVaughn said. “We change up the playlist and exercises every class, so you never get bored or plateau. Our sound system and special effects lights help you enter a state where you can forget you’re working out and just enjoy moving your body.”

Scheduling is conveniently offered through vagaro.com.

According to DeVaughn, the building Sebago Cycle is in currently is temporary while plans are formulated for a build-to-suit studio in the same location that is larger and offers even more of a variety of classes.

Feedback and review focus on the energy of Sebago Cycle.

“Cannot recommend Sebago Cycle enough! We finally have a Spin studio in the Sebago Lake area, and it does NOT disappoint. They offer spin, yoga, strength & core, and boxing. The studio is clean, inviting, and the best vibe for a workout.” Victoria P.

“From the moment you walk through the door you feel like part of the Sebago Cycle Community. I’ve never found such a supportive, encouraging, and accepting atmosphere to move my body in.” Mandy S.

Business Spotlight: Sebago Baking Company

Dave Whitten went looking for a great healthy sandwich for lunch in Windham and when he couldn’t find one that wasn’t from a fast-food chain eatery, he decided to do something about it and created Sebago Baking Company. The business is rapidly gaining a devoted loyal following and building a solid reputation for quality food and friendly service.

Located at 889 Roosevelt Trail in North Windham, Sebago Baking Company specializes in crafting fresh, artisan baked goods and hearty, mouth-watering sandwiches made entirely from scratch. Open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, he and his wife Judy launched the business on July 1. They create breakfast and lunch deli-style sandwiches while featuring a generous selection of tasty baked treats throughout the day.

For those with a sweet tooth, it’s difficult to choose between an array of eclairs, cannolis, mini pies, fresh muffins, whoopie pies, cream horns, cinnamon rolls, French toast bites, cheesecake slices, donuts and sticky buns. They contribute the success of the delectable treats to the expertise of local baker Jaylee Remington, who brings more than 10 years of baking experience to the company. You’ll also find lemon bars, cupcakes, turnovers, Danishes, apple fritters, pineapple upside down cake, gourmet brownies and much more to choose from each time you visit.

Sandwiches are made fresh while you wait or can be ordered ahead and picked up when you arrive. There are four types of breads available for sandwiches, including gluten-free, using high-quality ingredients.

All items are competitively priced for the quality we produce,” Whitten said. “I was discouraged about lunch options in Windham as well as bakery items. I wanted to provide something better for Windham and surrounding areas and that was our goal.”

Among popular sandwiches for lunch at Sebago Baking Company are a Turkey BLT featuring 1/4 pound of their in-house roasted turkey, fresh green leaf lettuce, sliced Roma tomatoes, applewood smoked bacon and a light spread of real mayonnaise, or a Ham & Swiss with fresh green leaf lettuce and sliced Roma tomatoes.

All sandwiches come with a pickle and are served on your choice of bread.

Other cold sandwiches available are a Premium Roast Beef & Vermont Cheddar with sliced Roma tomatoes, green leaf lettuce and mayonnaise and the Sebago Sub generously piled with in-house carved baked ham, sweet Vidalia onion, green peppers, pickle, Roma tomatoes, green leaf lettuce and mayonnaise. The menu includes chicken salad or tuna salad sandwiches that use solid white chicken or solid white tuna mixed with light celery, lettuce and Roma tomatoes.

Hot sandwiches are also prominent menu options and include a delicious Datza meatball sub showcasing homemade meatballs in tomato sauce with shredded mozzarella and provolone cheese toasted on a hoagie roll or a Pizza Sub with ham and pepperoni with shredded mozzarella and provolone cheese served on a hoagie roll.

Perhaps the most popular menu item of all at Sebago Baking Company is the hot Turkey Gobbler sandwich. It’s made with in-house baked turkey dipped in gravy, topped with homemade stuffing, garnished with cranberry sauce and served on a warm hoagie roll.

For a lighter meal, homemade craft-batch soups will be offered seasonally. Chips from Fox Family Farms in Maine and a bevy of beverages are also served.

An array of hot breakfast sandwiches can be ordered and include real fried eggs and cheese on freshly baked in-house English muffins, along with fresh coffee and fresh baked goods.

Whitten says response from the public has been tremendous and is evidence that quality healthy food matters to the community.

“Seeing people coming back tells me we’re doing something right.”

Online reviews are already exceptional for Windham's newest bakery and lunch eatery.

“We stopped in this morning and picked up a few treats and were not disappointed! The French toast mini donut holes filled with maple syrup were to die for! Everything was delicious and the staff was very kind and friendly!” ~ Kate Coyne

“Stopped in for the first time today. Amazing muffins. Also got to try an almond tart (made with almond flour as well) and it was delicious!! Serious keeper! Looking forward to trying their breakfast sandwiches as well as their subs. Definitely our new go to place!! Highly recommend!!” ~ Carol Greene

“What sets us apart is we go to great lengths for our customers, so they understand what they are getting,” he said. “During the consultation we get to know what results the customers want. We deliver durable exterior solutions designed for Maine's unique climate, ensuring peace of mind and lasting value.”

Featuring competitive pricing for the level of quality service and materials that it offers, 3D Exteriors focuses on delivering exceptional quality service and installation.

“While every job is different, our educational sales approach helps customers know exactly what their options are to get their job done right,” Dyer said. “While we may be a new business, people will find out that we’re knowledgeable, and capable of providing excellent work. Our process, pricing and crews are absolutely amazing. We would love an opportunity to help everyone with their next home improvement project.”

After years working for other contractors in the area, Dyer said he felt there was a better way to streamline the construction process and founded 3D Exteriors in January 2026.

“Having customers deal with so many different people throughout the process, a sales guy, project manager, project supervisor, crews, so many opportunities for information to get lost, and cause delays, or problems on the jobs,” he said. “I felt that it might be nice if we could have the same person from first contact to final clean up working with customers. Our approach helps customers to feel confident and comfortable, dealing with the same person throughout the process. This helps to avoid miscommunications between sales reps and project managers.”

Reviews posted online are outstanding.

“Had an excellent experience with 3D Exteriors. I have had issues with my roof for years. Jon came over, diagnosed the problem, gave me a reasonable quote, and came back to do the work. They were very professional and they worked well with accomplishing everything that needed to be done. I would certainly recommend them and will use them again in the future!!” Dan McAllister

“Oh my gosh. Where do I start? 3D Exteriors and crew were fantastic. They were professional, helpful and dependable. My wonky 100-year-old cottage had been leaking in various spots all winter. Jonathan came and looked it all over. He quoted me a very reasonable and fair price. Then during the demo stage, he and his crew found numerous issues with rotted structure. The roof has been completely rebuilt and water-tight, and it looks wonderful!” Cheryl Johnson

“Jon was so great to work with replacing our porch roof. We had issues with other companies considering doing a partial replacement, without pushing for doing the whole house as well. He was quick to call back, meet with us, and get us a quote, all within a couple of days. Jon is very knowledgeable and saw all the immediate issues and what would need to be done. The pricing was very transparent even for possible issues that they could encounter if they found rot (which was the reality). The work was done in less than a day and they made everything more structurally sound and watertight than it had been originally. We will be calling back to do the rest of our house.” Holland Corson

Business Spotlight: Sebago Dock & Lift

For more than three decades, Sebago Dock & Lift has quietly built a reputation for creating some of the strongest and most innovative waterfront access systems in the country. Behind that success is founder Jim Wynn, a man whose journey is every bit as impressive as the aluminum docks, staircases and ramps his company manufactures.

ADA-compliant access systems and custom fabrication

reputable companies in the market. COURTESY PHOTO
Wynn didn't build his business from a corporate playbook. He built it from the ground up with determination, perseverance and three simple rules that continue to guide every decision he makes.

"Be happy. Work hard. Do what you say you're going to do."

Those words have become more than a personal philosophy. They have become the foundation of a company that has grown from servicing docks on Maine lakes to manufacturing engineered aluminum products used across the United States.

The road wasn't always easy.

Growing up, Wynn was told by some that he would never amount to anything. Rather than accepting those opinions, he used them as motivation. He credits much of his determination to his mother, whose resilience and work ethic instilled in him the grit that would carry him through every obstacle life placed in front of him.

Over the years, there were setbacks, challenges and moments when giving up may have seemed like the easier choice. Instead, Wynn adapted, overcame and continued pushing forward, turning obstacles into opportunities.

That persistence eventually led to the creation of Alummikon, the manufacturing division behind Sebago Dock & Lift. Today, the company designs and fabricates premium aluminum docks, adjustable stair systems, gangways, ramps and custom waterfront structures from its Naples, Maine facility. Every product reflects decades of real-world experience gained from working on waterfronts throughout northern New England.

One of the company's most significant accomplishments is something few people ever see but engineers and municipalities certainly appreciate.

Alummikon holds a Professional Engineer (PE) stamped product line that is valid in 49 states, allowing projects to meet stringent engineering and permitting requirements. According to the company, no other waterfront manufacturer in New England offers that distinction. The credential has opened the door to municipal, commercial and FEMA-related projects that require certified engineering before construction can begin.

While engineering credentials are important, Wynn believes products ultimately have to prove themselves where it matters most, in the water.

Anyone who has spent time on a Maine shoreline knows the power of ice, wind and waves. Nor'easters routinely punish waterfront structures, testing every weld, fastener and support system.

That demanding environment became Wynn's classroom. Rather than designing products for ideal conditions, he designed them for the worst conditions.

His adjustable aluminum stair systems have earned a reputation for standing up to Maine's harsh coastal weather while providing safe, stable access to the water. Built from corrosion-resistant aluminum, each staircase can be custom designed to fit virtually any shoreline, whether the property features a gradual slope, steep embankment, rocky terrain or changing elevations. The modular designs also allow homeowners and commercial property owners to create solutions tailored specifically to their waterfront.

That same attention to detail extends across the company's complete product line. Sebago Dock & Lift, powered by Alummikon, manufactures aluminum dock systems, floating docks, gangways, walkways, ADA-compliant access systems and custom fabrication projects, while also selling premium boat lifts from the most reputable companies in the market.

Despite the company's growth, Wynn has never lost sight of the values that started it all.

Customers often describe working with Sebago Dock & Lift as working with people who answer the phone, stand behind their products and keep their promises. Those qualities may sound old-fashioned, but Wynn believes they remain one of the company's greatest competitive advantages.

His philosophy is straightforward. Treat people fairly. Build products that last. Keep your word.

Those principles have allowed Sebago Dock & Lift to earn the trust of homeowners, contractors, municipalities and waterfront developers throughout Maine and beyond.

For Wynn, success has never been measured solely by sales or expansion. It is measured by seeing a family enjoy a dock that will last for decades, watching a custom staircase safely guide generations to the water, or completing a project that others said couldn't be done.

The company he built is proof that determination often outweighs circumstance.

What began as one man's willingness to work hard has evolved into a nationally recognized manufacturer whose products carry engineering credentials few competitors can match. Yet the mission remains remarkably unchanged.

Be happy. Work hard. Do what you say you're going to do.

For Jim Wynn, those aren't simply words. They're the blueprint that transformed grit into one of Maine's premier waterfront manufacturing companies.

For more information on Sebago Dock & Lift and Alummikon visit www.SebagoDock.com and www.Alummikon.com or call 207-209-2924. They offer free site visits and consultations to give you the waterfront of your dreams that is built to last. <

Located at 1001 Roosevelt Trail in Windham, 9 Line Auto specializes in providing quality pre-owned vehicles at competitive prices while making the car-buying experience as simple and stress-free as possible.

“We offer vehicle sales, financing through local lending partners, extended warranty options, trade-ins, and professional detailing services,” said Rick Turner, 9 Line Auto owner. “We work hard to help every customer find the right vehicle for their needs and budget.”

Serving customers throughout the Lakes Region and beyond, Turner says what distinguishes 9 Line Auto from the competition is its commitment to treating customers like family.

“We believe buying a vehicle should be an enjoyable experience, not a stressful one,” he said. “We take the time to answer questions honestly, never pressure our customers, and stand behind the vehicles we sell. Our attention to detail, personalized service, and genuine care for our customers are what continue to earn us repeat business and referrals. While we're proud to serve the Lakes Region, our customers come from all over Maine and even neighboring states. Many people are willing to travel because of our inventory, customer service, and reputation.”

Turner said that fair and competitive pricing and offering quality vehicles that have been carefully selected and prepared for sale are essential to 9 Line Auto’s success.

“We believe in providing value, not just the lowest price, so customers know they're getting a dependable vehicle backed by excellent service,” he said. “We want people to know that integrity is at the heart of everything we do. Whether someone is purchasing their first vehicle or they are upgrading to something newer, we want every customer to leave feeling confident that they were treated honestly and respectfully.”

According to Turner, 9 Line Auto is known for its friendly and no-pressure approach, superior pre-owned vehicles, and its devotion to offering exceptional customer service.

“We take pride in building long-term relationships with our customers, many of whom return to us for future purchases and recommend us to their friends and family,” he said. “Quality is extremely important to us. Every vehicle is carefully inspected and prepared before it reaches our lot, and our detailing department ensures each one is presented in excellent condition. We consistently receive positive feedback from customers who appreciate our honesty, communication, and the time we spend helping them through the buying process. Customer satisfaction is one of our highest priorities.”

In business since 2025, 9 Line Auto features a close-knit team that includes Turner, office manager Ella Farris, sales manager Taale Thompson, and detailer Sam Hanson.

As a growing dealership, Turner said that 9 Line Auto is also currently looking to add another salesperson to its team as the business continues to expand and better serve customers.

“Being a small, locally owned business allows us to provide personalized service and build lasting relationships with our customers,” he said. “Every member of our team takes pride in making sure each customer has a positive experience from the moment they walk through our doors.”

Turner’s passion for the automotive industry began at a young age. After spending years gaining experience in vehicle sales, he pursued his dream of opening his own dealership at just 23 years old. He says his vision was to build a dealership where customers could expect honesty, transparency, and outstanding service every step of the way.

“Today, that same vision continues to guide everything we do, and we're proud to be a locally owned dealership serving our community with integrity, quality, and a commitment to treating every customer like family,” Turner said.

Google reviews for 9 Line Auto are outstanding.

“Can honestly say they made purchasing the car super easy! Huge shout out to Taale for going above and beyond to answer all the questions I had and making it a wonderful experience! Absolutely love my new ride! Thank you to Everyone at 9 Line Auto that made it possible!” Lexi B.

“Very easy car buying experience and all the staff easy to work with. They even delivered the car to my house. I would definitely buy another vehicle here.” Jeffrey G.

“I recently purchased a 2022 Jeep Wrangler from 9 Line Auto. Rick and Taale were both courteous, honest and helpful to work with. Quick and easy transaction. I would definitely recommend them.” Susie C.

Business Spotlight: Custom Handyman Solutions

To Jeffrey LeMay of Custom Handyman Solutions, every project that he works on represents an opportunity to help someone improve their home and bring their vision to life.

Jeffrey LeMay is the owner of Custom
Handyman Solutions, which specializes
in residential home improvement and
quality finish carpentry services.
SUBMITTED PHOTO
Based in Raymond, Custom Handyman Solutions is best known for a willingness to help people, and LeMay’s passion is carpentry work, including kitchen renovations, trim, crown molding, which adds the perfect touch to any project.

“A large portion of my work involves custom trim installation, crown molding, wainscoting, shiplap, drywall finishing, and basement renovations,” LeMay said. “These projects allow me to combine precision craftsmanship with creativity to help homeowners elevate their living spaces. While I enjoy all aspects of home improvement, some of my favorite projects involve custom built-ins and transforming a client's vision from a sketch on paper into a finished feature that becomes a focal point in their home.”

He specializes in a wide range of residential home improvement and finish carpentry services, including kitchen renovations and remodeling; custom trim installation; crown molding; wainscoting; shiplap accent walls; flooring installation and repairs; drywall installation and finishing; custom built-ins and shelving; light fixture replacement; faucet installation; vanity and plumbing fixture replacement; basement finishing; and general home repairs and finish work. Custom Handyman Solutions offers free estimates for all projects, and LeMay’s goal is to provide quality craftsmanship and dependable service wherever his customers need him.

In business for the past four years and serving Cumberland, Androscoggin, Oxford and York counties, what sets LeMay and Custom Handyman Solutions apart from similar businesses is his commitment to customer service, flexibility in scheduling, and relationship-building.

“Before starting my business, I worked in customer-facing roles where I learned the importance of communication, responsiveness, and trust,” he said. “I carry those same principles into every project I take on today. I don't view my work as simply completing a job and moving on. I strive to build lasting relationships with my customers by being punctual, transparent, responsive, and respectful of both their time and their homes.”

According to LeMay, he works hard to keep his pricing fair, honest, and competitive and to respect the job sites he works in.

“As a father, I understand how important it is to maintain a clean and safe living environment. When my daughter was younger, she experienced frequent respiratory illnesses, which gave me a heightened awareness of dust control and indoor air quality,” LeMay said. “Because of that experience, I regularly utilize dust containment systems such as ZipWalls and HEPA filtration whenever possible to minimize disruption and keep homes clean throughout the renovation process. I treat every home as if it were my own and take great pride in delivering quality workmanship while maintaining a clean and professional job site.”

He genuinely loves what he does and focuses on quality craftsmanship by investing in professional-grade tools and equipment to ensure the best possible results that exceed expectations.

LeMay’s path to finish carpentry wasn't traditional. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminology from the University of Southern Maine only to discover it wasn’t the right career for him. He went on to attend Northeast Technical Institute, where he earned certifications in HVAC technology.

“Over the years, I worked in maintenance and facilities-related positions while continuing to develop my woodworking and carpentry skills as a hobby,” LeMay said. “What began as a personal passion gradually evolved into something much more meaningful. I found myself increasingly drawn to hands-on craftsmanship and the satisfaction that comes from creating something tangible. The more projects I completed, the more I realized that building and creating was where my true passion lived. Encouraged by my brother-in-law, I began taking on finish carpentry projects on weekends while working a full-time desk job. As demand grew and my passion continued to deepen, I made the decision to take a leap of faith and pursue my dream full-time.”

Starting Custom Handyman Solutions has allowed LeMay to combine craftsmanship, creativity, and customer service into a career that he truly loves and every day he now has the opportunity to help homeowners improve their homes while doing work that he’s genuinely passionate about.

“I've had the opportunity to complete a wide range of projects, including kitchen remodels, bathroom renovations, flooring installations, deck improvements, custom carpentry, drywall work, and general home repairs,” he said. “Many customers have highlighted my willingness to go the extra mile, my attention to detail, and my commitment to ensuring they are completely satisfied with the finished product.”

Business Spotlight: Lenny's Pub

A new chapter has dawned at Lenny’s Pub in Westbrook under new ownership where everyone is welcomed for a great meal, to listen to live music and to connect with friends old and new.

affordable meals and live music at a comfortable location

Located at 1274 Bridgton Road in Westbrook’s Al Hawkes Plaza, Lenny’s is steeped in history and offers an authentic and comfortable place where you can enjoy an affordable home-cooked meal and have some fun.

Co-owner Jill Murphy says the goal is to serve good food at a fair price while providing musical entertainment worth hearing.

“Our food is made by chef/owner Susan Ericson and her team with love,” Piker said. “Lenny’s Pub is a place to connect, to belong. And the music unites us all.”

New owners Adam Steinman, Erickson and Murphy took over in March 2026 from former owner Bill Umbel and say they are trying to keep the spirit of Al Hawkes Plaza alive. They say it is important for Lenny’s to provide a diverse sound selection that manages to hold a good melody and to the heart of the soul. Local artists such as Travis James Humphries, who creates a bluesy folksy honky tonk sound, to Rose Alley, who plays more electrifying jams in line with The Jerry Garcia Band, are regular music performers at Lenny’s Pub.

Lenny’s itself a little-known piece of musical history in Maine. Originally it was the home of Event Records, a small independent bluegrass and country music label created by early bluegrass artist Al Hawkes in 1956. He was a pioneer of his time who found his footing in music as a boy, learning to play guitar in his teens and went on to build a pirate radio station and then a recording studio in the building of what is now Lenny’s Pub.

Al Hawkes was part of the first interracial musical duo, Allerton & Alton, in a time when segregation was still thick and prominent in America. He pushed boundaries socially and musically, bringing in guitar, mandolin and banjo with a free-flowing hillbilly style. Event Records recorded some of the early bluegrass duo’s that are responsible for the harmony still heard in bluegrass today. Eventually Event Records came to an end in the 1960s and a portion of the recording studio became Al Hawkes Repair Plaza where Al and his wife repaired televisions until 1989. Al never stopped playing music and recording with his friends and the community around him.

Lenny Breau was just one of the many artists that Al Hawkes recorded. Lenny was a “boy wonder” and a musical genius that was ahead of his time. He grew up touring and performing with his parents Hal Lone Pine and Betty Cody. They were the top country and western musicians of Maine who went on to enshrinement in the Maine Hall of Fame. Lenny basically grew up on stage with his parents as Lone Pine Jr. or working as a studio musician at Al Hawkes Event Records. He discovered Chet Atkins finger picking and Bill Evans Jazz in his youth and somehow managed to synthesize his own unique style. His music is said to have influences in country, jazz, classical, flamenco, and bluegrass. It's said that he was too classical for the pop music of his time and too radical for the jazz musicians. Lenny liked to use a 12-string guitar, and he got into technical and complex string work. He played at venues across the country and taught music at a school in California until he was found dead in 1984.

Through the years a few other businesses have been located at the Lenny’s site, but one thing has remained constant and that is the historical 20-foot-tall Hawkes repairman swinging his toolbox sign at Al Hawkes Plaza.

Under its new owners, Lenny’s is a place to get away from your daily routine to find community, eat great affordable food made with love and gluten-free options, and listen to live and vinyl music while out among friends.

“We treat our patrons like family,” Murphy said. “We believe that no matter who you are, everyone needs a place where you are welcomed and can be yourself. We only charge a cover on Fridays and Saturdays or for larger acts in order to make a night out at Lenny’s Pub affordable.”

Reviews so far are exceptional.

“The food was absolutely fantastic and fairly priced. The portions were good and the service was good.” Chew B.

“Delicious food, great music, wonderful staff.” Jacqueline M.

“Went last night for the music, which was good!” Junie D.

Hours are 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays.

Brandon Graves is the owner/operator of 207 Excavation
and an Eagle Choice Award Winner the last two years.

Founded in 2022 by Brandon Graves, 207 Excavation specializes in small excavation and earthwork projects in the Lakes Region of Maine, including site grading for parking lots, stormwater drainage, demolition of structures, excavation for foundations, septic systems, and the installation of leach fields and small commercial utilities. It can handle the toughest residential or commercial demolition and tree clearing projects, stump removal, grading and sitework.

“The most significant aspect of our business is that we are a small excavation company that takes extreme pride in our work and pays close attention to detail,” Graves said. “What distinguishes us from other companies is that the owner is on-site every day, working directly alongside the crew and ensuring the highest quality standards on every project, all with the goal of achieving complete client satisfaction.”

According to Graves, 207 Excavation strives to provide top notch service with great communication and respect for its customers.

The company has all necessary licenses and insurance to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards and is dedicated to completing projects and all work is completed in a timely manner without compromising on quality.

“Our business genuinely cares about the quality of our work and the relationships we build with our clients,” Graves said. “We take pride in bringing our clients’ visions to life through hard work, attention to detail, and dependable service. At the end of the day, our goal is simple – to build dreams while delivering excellence in every project we take on.”

Graves says that he has always been fascinated by the excavation industry and grew up working on small local farms. From taking Heavy Equipment Operations in high school at Westbrook Regional Vocational Center to buying his first excavator while still in high school, what started out as a hobby has turned his dream of owning an excavation company into reality.

“Now operating modern-day heavy equipment and building an arsenal of tools and knowledge, we have grown into what we are today with aspirations to scale,” he said. “With a commitment to exceptional service and honest workmanship, 207 Excavation aims to meet the diverse needs of its clients throughout all of Southern Maine."

He said that 207 Excavation aims to be competitive and affordable all while serving the needs of its clients, no matter what the size may be of the project.

Customer reviews posted online show that 207 Excavation is connecting positively with customers and delivering exceptional services.

“Hired 207 Excavation for some work and could not be more satisfied. Brandon is a great young man and he and his crew are hard workers. They are professional and take pride in their work. These guys have a bright future ahead of them. I wish them the best and just wanted to say thanks for a great job. Reach out to these guys if you need a project done.” Dave W.

Had these guys come and excavate my backyard so we could have a new above ground pool installed. They leveled out the pool pad perfectly within a 16th-of-an-inch and were an absolute pleasure to work with. I’m not calling anyone else any time I need excavation done.” Alex L.

“We had a culvert installed so we could cross our creek. Brandon and his crew did an amazing job. We are very happy with the work they did. Great company, highly recommend.” Jaimee W.
