A new chapter has dawned at Lenny’s Pub in Westbrook under new ownership where everyone is welcomed for a great meal, to listen to live music and to connect with friends old and new.
Co-owner Jill Murphy says the goal is to serve good food at a fair price while providing musical entertainment worth hearing.
“Our food is made by chef/owner Susan Ericson and her team with love,” Piker said. “Lenny’s Pub is a place to connect, to belong. And the music unites us all.”
New owners Adam Steinman, Erickson and Murphy took over in March 2026 from former owner Bill Umbel and say they are trying to keep the spirit of Al Hawkes Plaza alive. They say it is important for Lenny’s to provide a diverse sound selection that manages to hold a good melody and to the heart of the soul. Local artists such as Travis James Humphries, who creates a bluesy folksy honky tonk sound, to Rose Alley, who plays more electrifying jams in line with The Jerry Garcia Band, are regular music performers at Lenny’s Pub.
Lenny’s itself a little-known piece of musical history in Maine. Originally it was the home of Event Records, a small independent bluegrass and country music label created by early bluegrass artist Al Hawkes in 1956. He was a pioneer of his time who found his footing in music as a boy, learning to play guitar in his teens and went on to build a pirate radio station and then a recording studio in the building of what is now Lenny’s Pub.
Al Hawkes was part of the first interracial musical duo, Allerton & Alton, in a time when segregation was still thick and prominent in America. He pushed boundaries socially and musically, bringing in guitar, mandolin and banjo with a free-flowing hillbilly style. Event Records recorded some of the early bluegrass duo’s that are responsible for the harmony still heard in bluegrass today. Eventually Event Records came to an end in the 1960s and a portion of the recording studio became Al Hawkes Repair Plaza where Al and his wife repaired televisions until 1989. Al never stopped playing music and recording with his friends and the community around him.
Lenny Breau was just one of the many artists that Al Hawkes recorded. Lenny was a “boy wonder” and a musical genius that was ahead of his time. He grew up touring and performing with his parents Hal Lone Pine and Betty Cody. They were the top country and western musicians of Maine who went on to enshrinement in the Maine Hall of Fame. Lenny basically grew up on stage with his parents as Lone Pine Jr. or working as a studio musician at Al Hawkes Event Records. He discovered Chet Atkins finger picking and Bill Evans Jazz in his youth and somehow managed to synthesize his own unique style. His music is said to have influences in country, jazz, classical, flamenco, and bluegrass. It's said that he was too classical for the pop music of his time and too radical for the jazz musicians. Lenny liked to use a 12-string guitar, and he got into technical and complex string work. He played at venues across the country and taught music at a school in California until he was found dead in 1984.
Through the years a few other businesses have been located at the Lenny’s site, but one thing has remained constant and that is the historical 20-foot-tall Hawkes repairman swinging his toolbox sign at Al Hawkes Plaza.
Under its new owners, Lenny’s is a place to get away from your daily routine to find community, eat great affordable food made with love and gluten-free options, and listen to live and vinyl music while out among friends.
“We treat our patrons like family,” Murphy said. “We believe that no matter who you are, everyone needs a place where you are welcomed and can be yourself. We only charge a cover on Fridays and Saturdays or for larger acts in order to make a night out at Lenny’s Pub affordable.”
Reviews so far are exceptional.
“The food was absolutely fantastic and fairly priced. The portions were good and the service was good.” Chew B.
“Delicious food, great music, wonderful staff.” Jacqueline M.
“Went last night for the music, which was good!” Junie D.
Hours are 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays.

Condon says that Maine Power Wash Pros employees take pride in what they do and work very hard to deliver a great service to customers and are very careful of the residents’ homes to leave the property in better shape than when they started.
Maine Power Wash Pros was formed when owners Mike Morin and Brian Condon found that a need for this type of business existed in Maine and they set out to become the best company providing this type of service locally. They continuously take classes and attend seminars to be sure they are up to date with the latest skills so they can offer the best results for their customers.
“We put in a lot of time and energy before every wash.” Condon said. “We stand behind our work and don’t just take our word for it. Look at the hundreds of testimonials from our customers that we’ve posted on our website over the last 16 years. Business Spotlight: 207 Excavation
In choosing the right company to complete an excavation project, many important factors must be considered such as experience, professionalism, communication and a commitment to excellence. 207 Excavation certainly checks off all those boxes.
Founded in 2022 by Brandon Graves, 207 Excavation specializes in small excavation and earthwork projects in the Lakes Region of Maine, including site grading for parking lots, stormwater drainage, demolition of structures, excavation for foundations, septic systems, and the installation of leach fields and small commercial utilities. It can handle the toughest residential or commercial demolition and tree clearing projects, stump removal, grading and sitework.
According to Graves, 207 Excavation strives to provide top notch service with great communication and respect for its customers.
The company has all necessary licenses and insurance to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards and is dedicated to completing projects and all work is completed in a timely manner without compromising on quality.
“Our business genuinely cares about the quality of our work and the relationships we build with our clients,” Graves said. “We take pride in bringing our clients’ visions to life through hard work, attention to detail, and dependable service. At the end of the day, our goal is simple – to build dreams while delivering excellence in every project we take on.”
Graves says that he has always been fascinated by the excavation industry and grew up working on small local farms. From taking Heavy Equipment Operations in high school at Westbrook Regional Vocational Center to buying his first excavator while still in high school, what started out as a hobby has turned his dream of owning an excavation company into reality.
“Now operating modern-day heavy equipment and building an arsenal of tools and knowledge, we have grown into what we are today with aspirations to scale,” he said. “With a commitment to exceptional service and honest workmanship, 207 Excavation aims to meet the diverse needs of its clients throughout all of Southern Maine."
He said that 207 Excavation aims to be competitive and affordable all while serving the needs of its clients, no matter what the size may be of the project.
“We provide top-notch work for a fair price,” Graves said. “While doing so, we have received the Eagle Choice Award in 2024 and 2025 and have a significant amount of client recommendations whom we greatly appreciate. Our business is built upon personability, reliability and dependability.”
Customer reviews posted online show that 207 Excavation is connecting positively with customers and delivering exceptional services.
“Hired 207 Excavation for some work and could not be more satisfied. Brandon is a great young man and he and his crew are hard workers. They are professional and take pride in their work. These guys have a bright future ahead of them. I wish them the best and just wanted to say thanks for a great job. Reach out to these guys if you need a project done.” Dave W.
“Had these guys come and excavate my backyard so we could have a new above ground pool installed. They leveled out the pool pad perfectly within a 16th-of-an-inch and were an absolute pleasure to work with. I’m not calling anyone else any time I need excavation done.” Alex L.
“We had a culvert installed so we could cross our creek. Brandon and his crew did an amazing job. We are very happy with the work they did. Great company, highly recommend.” Jaimee W.
